French Maid

Have you ever wondered where the iconic  Sexy French Maid look came from? It started in 19th-century Paris with a little scandal and a lot of leg. Back then, bold and brazen Can-Can dancers caused quite a stir with their high kicks, giving audiences glimpses of their culottes and  bare upper thighs.  This perceived indecency caused an uproar and was enough to shut down a few nightclubs for public nudity. 

When the act crossed the Atlantic, the American burlesque dancers put their cheeky twist on it. They introduced the playful, naive yet coquine “French Housekeeper” in her black and white uniform who finds herself in compromising situations. It was just risqué enough to tempt and tease the masses without being censored at the time.  Soon, the French Maid became the ultimate symbol of flirtation and fun.

Today, the iconic French Maid is recognised worldwide as the uniform of the woman in control of her image, her feminine charms and unafraid to push the envelope.
